High Marks for ASA College in National Survey

ASA College in New York City received top rankings in multiple categories of student engagement, placing it among the best performing two-year colleges in country, according to the recently released 2014 Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE).

CCSSE student surveys are the nationally recognized, independent standard for measuring a two-year college's effectiveness of student engagement-a key indicator of learning and overall quality of the academic experience. The results help two-year degree colleges assess their educational practices so they can improve student academic oucomes.

"ASA College's core mission is to prepare students for the challenges of today's competitive job market. Nothing better underscores our commitment to that mission than the constant engagement with students by our academic faculty and career services counselors. We are focused on making sure our students have the support they need throughout their educational experience, into the employment market, and beyond," said ASA College president Alex Shchegol.

In the 2014 survey, which included 430,000 students across the country, ASA College scored better than the average of the top-performing colleges in three of five benchmark categories: "Student Effort," "Academic Challenge," and "Support for Learners." ASA College also scored above the national average in the remaining two categories: "Active and Collaborative Learning" and "Student-Faculty Interaction."

For New York City area participating colleges, which included more than 10,000 students, the survey showed ASA College was a top performer with significantly higher scores than average in all five categories.

ASA College also nearly doubled the national average of students who reported a high frequency of engagement related to career counseling in their fields of study.

According to CCSSE, research shows that the more actively engaged students are - with college faculty and staff, other students, and the subject matter - the more likely they are to learn and to achieve their academic goals.

Mr. Shchegol said that the administration and faculty will employ data from the survey to make further improvements to the student academic experience at ASA College. "We are proud of our outstanding performance, but we will continue to strive for excellence."
