Gabe Kirk and Tinijah S.D. Roseboro were recently crowned winners of the annual Mr. and Miss Amicae Pageant at Mount Prospect Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

Gabe, a fourth-grader at Ebinport Elementary School, is the son of Pondesta and Kimberly Kirk. He was sponsored by Amicae Eva Hoyles.

Tinijah, a sixth-grader at Great Falls Middle School, is the daughter of Andrea Michelle Roseboro. She was sponsored by Amica Beatrice Gaither.

Other winners are:

First runner-up Amicae, Laqyuan Rambert, son of Luvetta Smith, sponsored by Amicae Beatrice Caldwell.

First runner-up Miss Amicae, Elisha Janae Sturdivant, daughter of Gerard and Wanda Sturdivant, sponsored by Amicae Johnnie Chisholm.

Second runner up, Tanesha J. Cook, daughter of Gail and Marion Cook, sponsored by Amicae Mary Thompson.

Proceeds benefit the Amicae scholarship fund, local charities and Z-Hope Projects.Delta Xi Zeta Amicae of Rock Hill is an auxiliary of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

Brattonsville volunteers are honored at dinner

The Culture and Heritage Museums recently honored Historic Brattonsville volunteers with a tavern-style dinner at the living history site in McConnells.

They donated a total of 13,498 volunteer hours with a monetary value of more than $243,500, based on the latest national volunteer value.

Awards included Interpreter of the Year, presented to Ann Faris of Rock Hill, for more than 166 volunteer hours; and Volunteer of the Year, given to George Swartout of Rock Hill, for 194 volunteer hours. Diane Payne Wine of York and Gene Copeland of Clover were recipients of the distinguished Gem Award that recognizes volunteers that go above and beyond.

Volunteers with 15 years of service who were recognized are Fred Moss and Kay Moss, both of Gastonia, N.C., and Wine, Copeland and Martha Macdonald of Rock Hill.

The Friends of Historic Brattonsville's newly elected board officers were recognized. They are Jonell Hagner of Rock Hill, president; Gene Copeland, vice president; Ann Faris, treasurer; and Nancy McFall of Rock Hill, secretary. Other board members are Angela Adams of McConnells, Kip Carter of Lancaster, Ed Darby of Chester, Gina Pratt of Smyrna, and Mike Bolling, Carolyn Mendenhall, Lisa Swetnam and Keith Fields, all of Rock Hill.

Six attend reunion of CCC at local park

The Civilian Conservation Corp. recently held its 73rd reunion last month at Kings Mountain National Military Park, near Blacksburg.

The six members who attended were: Jim Crocker, Donald Lathan, Pete Wheeles, Webb Ridley, Ralph Vincent and Sam Carnes. Their family members also attended.

CCC members worked to improve millions of acres of federal and state land and parks during 1933 through 1945.

Webb begins third term as local Optimist president

Tom Webb will be inducted for a third term as president of the Rock Hill Optimist Club at the Optimist District Conference Nov. 3 to 5 in Augusta, Ga.

The Rock Hill club, formed in 1949, has been leading the Optimist Club in South Carolina for seven years. The local club has been active in youth clubs in conjunction with 4-H, the Worthy Boys & Girls Club, working with the Rock Hill Police Department and other events, including Christmas tree sales and a golf tournament.

Webb plans to continue these efforts and the club's growth. The group meets the second Monday of the month at its park on Trexler Lane. To become a member, call 366-1584.
