Harris Corporation, Havis Inc. and Lectronix Inc. Team Up to Build Showcase Vehicle for the 2014 IACP Conference

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Orlando, FL (PRWEB) October 24, 2014 The product development teams at Harris Corporation, Havis Inc. and Lectronix Inc. have teamed up to build a technology concept car for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. The car will be on display at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in Orlando, FL from Oct. 25-27th, 2014 and will be located at the Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications booth (#1850). The vehicle demonstrates a powerful convergence of technologies and public safety software applications that simplifies the cockpit, providing police officers with a safe and efficient operating environment.

In this vehicle, access to public safety and commercial LTE cellular networks is provided using the Harris MBC-200 LTE Mobile Router. The router's reliable high-speed wireless link is used for secure group Push-to-Talk (PTT) communications and other innovative mission-critical applications in the car.

The Harris BeOn application for mobile devices implements the Push-to-Talk over an LTE interface, as well as other advanced features including real-time presence and situational awareness to public safety team members. BeOn, already widely accepted as a secure communications PTT platform for public safety voice and applications via compatible mobile phones and tablets, operates in this concept car directly in the dash of the vehicle using the processing capabilities of the Havis Integrated Control System (ICS) developed by Lectronix.

The Havis ICS embeds a 12.1 inch ultra-durable touch screen display into the dash of Ford Police Interceptors increasing cabin space, improving safety and the user experience for public safety and law enforcement officers. The system features an embedded processor and multiple interfaces that ease the convergence of multiple technologies like conventional Land Mobile Radio, LTE cellular networking, computer, and mobile device applications into a seamless operating environment.

Running the BeOn platform on the ICS processor offers a new level of vehicle integration with many benefits, including audio with vehicle speakers and microphones, a large display in optimal dashboard and airbag location, use of steering wheel controls, direct access to vehicle power, and extended geographic range and reception for communications.

"Lectronix is thrilled to provide the 'nerve center' of this new, tightly integrated and cost competitive solution. We look forward to working with our partners to provide this solution to public safety professionals, increasing their safety and effectiveness." said Tom Bayerl, President of Lectronix.

Each year, the IACP Conference brings together law enforcement professionals across the nation to give them vital information, relevant resources and critical expertise to better their agency. This year's conference will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.
