Harper Government Continues to Improve Infrastructure and Security of its IT Infrastructure [New Vision (Uganda)]


(New Vision (Uganda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Today, the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister responsible for Shared Services Canada, delivered a keynote address at Canada's Government Technology Exhibition and Conference 2014, summarizing Shared Services Canada's (SSC) progress on the Government of Canada's information technology (IT) transformation agenda.



Minister Finley discussed SSC's focus on generating savings and improving cyber security government wide.

The address highlighted a number of SSC's ongoing projects such as the Email Transformation Initiative to move all departments to one e-mail system. Additionally, the Minister spoke about the Data Centre Consolidation project to consolidate the 485 Government of Canada data centres to only seven, as well as the Cost Effective Telephone Services Initiative to remove 22,000 desktop phones and migrate to cellular service or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The Minister also highlighted the importance of working with industry on new and innovative IT solutions.


With the creation of SSC, and the delivery of their transformation projects, the Harper Government is saving millions of taxpayers' dollars each year.
