Hafei Saibao Introduced into Harbin's Taxi Market

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)HARBIN, Jan 18, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --The first batch of 20 Hafei Saibao taxies recently have been put into operation in Harbin, capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

This is the first time for the local sedan to have entered the taxi market in the Ice City.

The move aims to support the development of the local automobile industry, a person familiar with the affair said.

Hafei Saibao, the first 3-compartment sedan launched by Harbin Hafei Motor Co., a Harbin-based independent auto maker, went on sale in April, 2005.

The car, which has passed EUR 3 standard and crash test regulations, was designed and engineered by Italy's Pininfarina. It is powered by a 1.6 or a 2.0-liter Mitsubishi engine.

The first batch of Saibao taxies will have two colors, and the starting fare will be priced at CNY 8, according to the person.

Moreover, Harbin plans to gradually make Saibao the main model in the city's taxi market, and make its proportion to the total new models to nearly 30%.
