Hackers take battle with Hamas to cyberspace: Campaigns have been launched to crash Hamas servers. Pro-Palestinian hackers are attacking Israeli websites.

Jan 05, 2009 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
An Israeli Internet initiative is recruiting surfers for cyberwarfare to crash hostile websites. Help Israel Win is inviting users to download a file that can overload Hamas servers, causing them to crash. 5,000 people have joined this effort so far.

The website states, "We're a group of students who are fed up sitting on the sidelines and seeing the residents of Sderot and communities near the Gaza Strip suffer. We set up this special project aimed at unifying the computer power of as many users as possible. The goal is to apply this ability to disrupt the activity of an enemy that seeks Israel's destruction."

Another site, Winnet, has launched a similar campaign. It offers surfers links to Hamas websites and asks them to enter them and post messages in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, saying "We won't surrender to terrorism."

Winnet states, "Our goal is to crash the websites of the dark forces." 160,000 people have visited the site since it came on air four days ago.

Meanwhile, Muslim and pro-Palestinian hackers are continuing to attack Israeli websites. On Friday, hackers attacked the websites of Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT), Reshet Bet, and the English edition of daily "Yediot Ahronot", ynetnews.
