Hacker breaks into Ecuadorian presidential Web site
(EFE Ingles Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Quito, Feb 10 (EFE).- An investigation has been launched to find the hacker who entered the Office of the President's Web site while it was undergoing maintenance, Ecuadorian officials said.
Carlos Medina, a member of the presidential communications office, told Efe that "unscrupulous persons managed to enter" the Web site and leave messages "that had nothing to do with the national government."
"We are currently conducting the necessary investigations to find out who was responsible," Medina said.
The recently created news site Puertabierta reported, meanwhile, that the message left by the hacker on the presidential Web site expressed support for the head of state, Rafael Correa, and condemned corruption on the part of Guayaquil Mayor Jaime Nebot, the best-known opposition leader.
The hacker broke into the Web site, which had to be taken down, on Saturday, leaving a message that contained greetings to Chile, asked to "please" not be jailed for breaking into the site and justified his actions by claiming that "the temptation of an important Web site is just too much."
The message was signed by the "LatinHackTeam Ownz." EFE
