Gov't warns KDDI over 'au' mobile phone service disruption
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TOKYO, Feb. 15 -- (Kyodo) _ The government ordered KDDI Corp. on Wednesday to take steps to deal with a series of disruptions to data communications since last month and instructed the operator of "au" mobile phone services to prevent a recurrence.
The administrative guidance given KDDI by the communication ministry follows a similar action taken against NTT Docomo Inc. late January over mobile communication troubles.
Up to 6.15 million au cellphones and smartphones were affected by system trouble last Saturday, after users of up to 1.3 million smartphones experienced difficulty in connecting to the Internet last Thursday.
On Jan. 25, KDDI's cellphone users in western Tokyo also experienced a service disruption.
Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Tatsuo Kawabata said in a news conference Tuesday, "Although the reasons differ in each case, troubles are recurring and we are taking the matter very seriously."
