Governor Releases $4.2 Million for State Infrastructure Improvements


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) HONOLULU, Sept. 29 -- Gov. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, issued the following news release: Gov. Neil Abercrombie today announced the release of more than $4.2 million to the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) for various capital improvement projects updating state facilities and information technology (IT) infrastructure.



"The jobs needed for these projects will help maintain the state's unemployment rate at its current six-year low and sustain our record civilian labor force at an all-time high," Gov. Abercrombie said. "Once these projects are complete, our state facilities will be safer and more efficient and our IT infrastructure will be more secure and better prepared to support our needs." Allotment of funds for the following projects, identified by state legislators, has been approved by the Governor: $3,225,000 - Enterprise IT Infrastructure, statewide - Funds for consultant services for the data center, shared service centers and infrastructure improvements.

$414,000 - Enterprise IT Infrastructure, statewide - Funds for the implementation of key security components. As the state's technology infrastructure modernizes, the ability to securely monitor, analyze and respond to cyber threats on the state's network becomes an increasingly critical component. This project will finance upgrades to the Security Information and Event Management system for the state's Security Operations Center. Upgrades include servers, hardware, software and software configuration.


$264,250 - Information and Communication Services Division (ICSD) Koko Head Radio Facility, Repairs and Upgrades to Generator Fuel System, Oahu - Construction funds for repairs and upgrades to the generator fuel system. The Koko Head project is one of nine projects to upgrade DC/AC inverters, related electrical infrastructure and diesel fuel systems for standby generators for various ICSD radio facilities statewide. The projects are part of the work to provide reliable communications infrastructure within each island and statewide between the islands in the event of a natural or manmade disaster, especially for first responders.

$236,000 - Miscellaneous Health, Safety, Code and Other Requirements, statewide - $80,000 in design and construction funds for the installation of an exhaust system in the coffee roasting room at the Department of Agriculture's (DOA) Kauai facility and $156,000 in design and construction funds for repairs and improvements to the quarantine building and other buildings at DOA's Hilo Plant Industry Facility.

$155,000 - Optimization Plan for Aloha Stadium Property, Oahu - Additional planning funds for an optimization plan for the Aloha Stadium property. The scope of the work includes data collection, solicitation of community input, Request for Information/Request for Qualifications and review of submittals. The "Aloha Stadium Comprehensive Site Summary" recommended a new, smaller stadium on the lower portion of the stadium site.
