Governor Rauner Proclaims Jan. 21-27 "Illinois School Choice Week"; Joins Leaders Nationwide in Celebrating Opportunity in Education

Illinois School Choice Week will take place Jan. 21-27, and Gov. Rauner has issued a proclamation making it official. Dozens of other governors and more than 500 city and county leaders nationwide have issued similar proclamations.

Illinoisans have planned more than 1,000 events, including rallies, roundtable discussions, coffeehouse meet-ups, festivals, and school fairs, to celebrate and raise awareness about educational opportunity during National School Choice Week. The events in Illinois are a part of the more than 32,000 events taking place nationwide.

"We're very grateful that Governor Rauner has issued this proclamation," said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. "It's important for parents to consider what they want for their children, and we hope they'll use this week to explore their options and find what works best. We're grateful to Gov. Raunr for raising awareness of this important issue that affects the lives of so many children in Illinois and across the country."

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent, nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
