Golf: In brief: Dawson to step down as head of Royal and Ancient(Guardian (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Peter Dawson is to retire as chief executive of the R&A and secretary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews after 16 years in the role. The R&A released a statement yesterday confirming that Dawson will step down in September 2015. By the time of his retirement, Dawson may have overseen the admittance of women members of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews for the first time, 260 years after it was founded. Dawson was also a key figure in securing golf's return to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.
