GigNet Completes 180-Kilometer Fiber-Optic Broadband Network and Opens New Business Office and Network Operations Center in Cancun

GigNet, the new operating brand of Cobalt (News - Alert) Broadband Services S.A. de C.V., today announced the completion of its 180-kilometer fiber-optic broadband network from Playa Mujeres to Cancun to Tulum. The Company also opened its new 5,000 square foot office in Cancun and its Network Operations Center (NOC (News - Alert)) - the first in Quintana Roo to offer local 24/7 network support for its customers.

"We intend to disrupt the broadband market in the Mexican Caribbean," said Mark Carney, Chief Business Development Officer for GigNet. "We use our own capital to offer 1 gig of Internet broadband connectivity to each hotel property, along with fiber-to-the-room and seamless roaming WiFi (News - Alert), in exchange for a small per-room per-day charge. This compelling value proposition is made possible by our superior, fully redundant fiber-optic network with guaranteed dedicated bandwidth, service quality network guarantees, exceptional security and around-the-clock network support and monitoring from our local NOC in Cancun - the first of its kind in Quintana Roo.

"Put simply, while the Mexican Caribbean is a leading travel destination in the world, with world-class properties and amenities, the Internet and WiFi quality at many properties have not kept up with guest expectations. Most families now check in with six to eight broadband devices and video streamlining requirements that are not being met."

In addition, the hospitality industry is seeing emerging digital hospitality initiatives such as mobile checkin via a personal device or centrally located kiosks, digital room keys sent directly to a smart phone, and room amenities easily accessible via personal devices. Guests are willing to pay more for these new services that require better, more reliable broadband. "All this means properties can generate improved social media reviews and more income with the services we enable - it's good business," Carney added.

Carney also pointed out GigNet is selling broadband to local enterprise customers who need additional connectivity, as well as wholesale connectivity to mobile carriers, cable companies and other Internet providers. "Our dedicated broadband network eliminates multiple carriers and finger-pointing. We take full responsibility for end-to-end service delivery, unlike our competitors," he said.

GigNet also completed its 5,000 square foot office to serve as GigNet's primary Sales and Marketing Office and Network Operations Center (NOC). Located in the heart of the Cancun Business district on Av. Bonampak, the location also serves as a customer support center and administrative office for Cobalt's new GigNet branded fiber-optic broadband network.

As a Sales and Marketing office, the site features a customer presentation center for meetings and for demos of GigNet's high-speed broadband services for the hospitality industry, enterprises, and other customers in the region. As the GigNet NOC, the facility features advanced event detection systems and state-of-the-art service level responses to keep the GigNet infrastructure operating at peak performance.

"The NOC's goal is 100 percent up time for our clients' environment. Our NOC services are thorough and comprehensive - from initial setup to 24×7 support to post-event analysis and reports. From this central location we can mitigate circuit issues, troubleshoot equipment problems, coordinate and dispatch field support if needed, and communicate with our hotel, enterprise and carrier customers," said Eduardo Garcia, Director of Operations for GigNet.
