GERMANY : M-net chooses Acme Packet for IMS session delivery [TendersInfo (India)]
(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Acme Packet, the leader in session delivery network solutions, today announced that German service provider M-net Telekommunications GmbH (M-net) has deployed the Acme Packet Net-Net Session Director as session border controllers (SBC) to support its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based next-generation services. The SBCs, operating as high availability (HA) pairs in multiple locations, control IMS sessions at M-net s access and interconnect borders. M-net is leveraging Acme Packet s broad functions and features to secure its network, assure service quality and reliability and extend its services with functions such as lawful intercept (LI) and IPv6-IPv4 interworking.
Acme Packet s certification with our primary IMS vendor Nokia Siemens Networks, and the high availability features and flexibility of the SBCs to perform as both access and interconnect points were critical factors in our selection as the SBC for our IMS initiative, said Norbert Erl, head of central planning, M-net. Additional capabilities such as IPv6, Quality of Service monitoring and lawful intercept bring additional value to our services that will benefit our customers.
M-net s vision of its network architecture and commitment to IMS has them well-positioned for subscriber growth and service expansion, said Dino Di Palma, chief operating officer, Acme Packet. Their successful migration to IMS-based service delivery will allow them to further strengthen their position as a leading provider of VoIP services throughout Germany.
The Net-Net Session Directors, certified to interoperate with M-net s Nokia Siemens Networks IMS and LI platforms, are performing access SBC (A-SBC) as well as IMS Interconnect Border Control (I-BCF) functions. Overload protection is applied at M-net s access border to assure high quality of service by ensuring that M-net s IMS service delivery platform is not flooded with excessive signaling messages. Session routing and load balancing are used at M-net s interconnect borders to ensure calls are connected over optimal network paths. With steady growth anticipated in the use of IPv6 endpoints, M-net also intends to leverage Acme Packet s ability to interwork IMS signaling between those endpoints and its IPv4 core.
