GEORGIA WILL NOT CHANGE ITS STANCE ON WTO TALKS WITH RUSSIA -

(Interfax News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) BEZHUASHVILI

TBILISI. May 18 (Interfax) - The Georgian Foreign Ministry sees no positive efforts from Moscow in negotiations on Russia's WTO accession, Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili told journalists on Friday.

"Georgia's stance is clear and it is not going to change," Bezhuashvili said.

A Russian delegation's visit to Tbilisi slated for May 30-31 and talks on Russia's WTO accession are however, very welcome, he said.

On July 14, 2006 Georgian Foreign Ministry announced Tbilisi's decision to resume bilateral talks on Russia's WTO accession, which ended on May 28, 2004. Tbilisi said "a discriminating customs regime" against Georgian wine and mineral water exports was the main reason for this.

Georgia says that Moscow is not fulfilling its commitments made at the Georgian-Russian talks on May 28, 2004 in Tbilisi regarding Russia's WTO accession.

Illegal checkpoints are still operating at the Georgian-Russian border in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, while the only legal checkpoint, Kazbegi-Verkhny Lars, has been closed for an indefinite period, he said. ###
