GCN Magazine Names Panasonic Toughbook® 30 Product of the Year

SECAUCUS, N.J. --(Business Wire)-- Panasonic (News - Alert) Computer Solutions Company, manufacturer of durable, reliable Panasonic Toughbook® mobile computers, today announced that the Panasonic Toughbook 30 has received GCN Magazine's 2009 Product of the Year for best notebook in the publication's December 14 issue. Panasonic was the only notebook manufacturer selected for this distinction.

The Toughbook 30 received high marks for ruggedness, performance, ease of use, features and value. GCN highlighted the Toughbook 30's durability and reliability, noting that "it's the most rugged laptop in this roundup, suffering not a scratch in all [GCN's] testing." The review pointed out that the notebook's performance outpaced the other reviewed notebooks in the roundup, receiving a 612.2 on the Passmark Performance benchmark that measures processor speed. In addition, GCN noted the notebook's long battery life, lasting six hours and 14 minutes during battery testing. The Toughbook 30's battery life outlasted the runner up notebook by almost an hour and a half in the roundup.

The Toughbook 30, which is the first notebook to receive MIL-STD-810G certification, was chosen as best notebook out of eight selected manufacturers, where all notebooks were tested according to MIL-STD-810G specifications. This was a direct result of the Toughbook 30 receiving the "Reviewer's Choice" distinction in GCN Magazine's 2009 rugged review roundup in October 2009.

"A lot of times when we test rugged gear, we find that users have to give up important features in order to get a survivable product," said GCN Lab Director John Breeden. "But that was not the case with the Toughbook 30. It tested well in all areas including performance, battery life and of course ruggedness. In fact, it was one of the most rugged pieces of gear that has ever run the gauntlet of GCN's hardcore government testing, really raising the bar for everyone else and earning both its Reviewer's Choice designation and the 2009 Product of the Year award." The Panasonic Toughbook® 30 notebook is built to deliver performance in the most demanding environments with its IP65 certified sealed all-weather design. The Toughbook 30 offers the following features: shock-mounted hard drive magnesium alloy case spill-resistant keyboard and touchpad 13.3" LCD with optional 1,000 nit touchscreen LCD with Panasonic CircuLumin™ technology optional integrated Gobi™ mobile broadband, WiFi (News - Alert), Bluetooth and GPS options standard 3-year warranty and U.S.-based customer support for the life of the product "Panasonic set the standard for rugged mobile computing market with government agencies and continues to lead the way because of our constant innovation and responsiveness around the needs of our customers," said Jan Ruderman, Vice President, Government Sales, Panasonic Computer Solutions (News - Alert) Company. "The Toughbook 30 offers its customers a reliable and mobile resource to stay connected no matter the environment."
