Gartner to hold female CIO meeting on Nov 25

(BNamericas.com)US tech consultancy Gartner plans to hold a meeting for Brazilian female CIOs on November 25, Gartner said in a statement.

The meetings for female CIOs occur twice a year and aim to discuss key themes that impact them in the workplace, said Lone de Almeida Coco, vice president of Gartner EXP Latin America.

"The number of women CIOs is increasing... two years ago there were 30, now we have 70 female CIOs," said de Almeida Coco, citing the number from her database of group members.

"In Brazil women still face many hurdles in companies, such as culture barriers. For instance, a man is never expected to collect the children when he has an important meeting," de Almeida Coco told BNamericas.

"But women [in Brazil] benefit from the fact that it is easy to get domestic help, maids, etc," she added.

"Many companies in Brazil, especially US ones, are frequently promoting diversity initiatives within the organization and are aware that this is good for the company," she told BNamericas.

Women CIOs work in all sectors, with many in industry and international companies, she said.
