G7 Alliance Unity Talks Won't Shake Us, Says Raila

Feb 15, 2012 (The Nation/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Tuesday dismissed unity talks by the G7 alliance and declared that ODM would win the General Election even if they fielded a single candidate.

Mr Odinga at the same time scoffed at prayer meetings being held by members of the alliance in various parts of the country.

"They are going round the country praying for themselves but I have not heard even a single of them offering prayers to those who were killed during the post-election violence," said Mr Odinga in his Lang'ata constituency on Tuesday.

He went on: "It is unfortunate that it is the (post-election violence) suspects that are being prayed for. If you are charged for a crime, you should go and face the judge." G7 alliance leaders Uhuru Kenyatta, Kalonzo Musyoka, William Ruto and Eugene Wamalwa have expressed intention to vie for the presidency.

The Prime Minister described the coming elections as a "rematch" and asked ODM members to be ready for the "battle".

"It is time to put right the wrong that was done to us in 2007. That is why I have decided to throw my hat in the field...united, we shall win," he said.

The PM asked Kenyans not to allow a repeat of the 2008 post-election violence. He urged his rivals to stick to issues and not personalities in their campaigns.

'You cannot go to a battle without preparation. That is why I am rallying my troops in readiness for the epic battle. They have to be ready," he said.

Mr Odinga, who was accompanied by French ambassador Etienne de Poncins, spoke moments after presiding over the inauguration of Mchanganyiko Self Help Group in Kibera.

He later visited Ayany Primary School, where he witnessed the distribution of free school uniforms.
