Further Verizon Wireless 3G expansion in Maine

Jun 17, 2009 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Verizon Wireless announced on Wednesday further expansion of its nationwide 3G network with the activation of a new cell site in the town of Carrabassett in the US State of Maine.

The mobile network operator said that the new site will provide increased wireless voice and 3G coverage along Route 16, Route 27, Route 142 and Route 145 in Carrabassett, Kingfield and Salem, as well as parts of Sugarloaf Mountain and the surrounding areas.

The site is part of the company's continued investment in its network infrastructure and services, investment which has seen around USD50m spent since the inception of the company in 2000. In the New England region, investment has now reached some USD2.4bn in the last nine years, with USD240m of that spent in 2008.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE:VOD) (LSE:VOD).
