(Sunday Mail (Malaysia) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)IRAQI Ammar Abdul Aziz Majeed Ali Al-talib is a senior lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at University College Sedaya International (UCSI) in Kuala Lumpur.
He has been in Malaysia for five years.
* Where is your hometown? I am from Mosul in northern Iraq.
It is a very beautiful city through which the Tigris River passes.
It has many historical places like Nineva, Al-Namrood and Al-Hatra.
It has four seasons.
* Initial perception of Malaysia One big jungle.
* Revised perception of Malaysia A very beautiful big garden.
* Any culture shock? I cannot take the spicy local food.
The first time I tried it, it felt like my mouth was burning.
Now I stick to the Iraqi food cooked by my wife.
I am also not used to the thunderstorms here.
The heavy downpours have scared me a few times while I was driving.
* Any hobbies? In Iraq, I use to rear house pigeons, but in Malaysia, this is not common at all.
So I have instead decided to keep an aquarium of fishes.
* What aspect of Malaysia would you take home? The way people here show respect to each other and are able to live in harmony, irrespective of their race or religion.
