Fourth annual Jessica Elkins Memorial Pageant is Saturday

The fourth annual Jessica Elkins Memorial Pageant will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Athens Middle School Auditorium.
Those who wish to take part in the pageant can register from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 17, or 2-4 p.m. Feb. 18.
The pageant, sponsored by Miss Model America, are divided into formal divisions including tiny tots, up to 23 months; angel, 2-4; princess, 5-8; pre-teen, 9-11; young teen 12-14; teen 15-18; and Miss, 19 and older. There will be a winner and three alternates for each division.
Registration is $25 (one per family), $25 entry fee (includes all side awards), $10 photogenic or three for $25.
Winners will receive the title of Miss Tennessee Valley Model, crown, satin banner, picture on Miss Model America website, and win fees off upcoming Miss Model America pageants.
Plenty of laughs will also be shared as a number of men in the community take part in the ugly walk. Registration for the ugly walk is $30.

It's been four years since Athens High School student Jessica Elkins, the daughter of Talbot and Michelle Elkins, lost her battle with bacterial meningitis. However, the legacy of love she left behind continues to remind others in the community about the importance of meningitis awareness and immunizations.
The Limestone Area Community Foundation Jessica Elkins Memorial Fund was set up in Jessica's honor. During the past four years, the fund has been able to award scholarships in Jessica's name and support a free meningitis shot clinic in Athens.
Proceeds from events such as Jessica's Tea Party and the annual Jessica Elkins Memorial Pageant make it all possible.
