Founder of Precision Health Movement to Headline Smart Health Conference in Virginia

Widely acclaimed healthcare thought leader and precision health visionary, Kevin Hrusovsky, will deliver the keynote address at a Smart Health Center of Excellence (CoE)/Network of Excellence (NoE) forum dedicated to fueling holistic, data-driven change in the precision health industry. Taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 8:30 a.m., EST, at the Inova (News - Alert) Center for Personalized Health in Fairfax, Virginia, Hrusovsky's opening address, "The Variables of Life Can Be Measured, Evaluated, and Acted Upon to Transform 'Sick Care' into true 'HealthCare'," will be a call to action for realizing the profound opportunity to transform the way disease is studied, diagnosed, and treated but most importantly, prevented.

"Many of us have dedicated our careers to advancing the science of precision health, with the goal of eradicating today's most lethal diseases through the transformation of today's reactive sick care to true, preventive healthcare," said Hrusovsky. "Collaboration is the cornerstone of this effort, which is why we founded the Powering Precision Health Summit (PPHS). Last month, many of the world's greatest medical and scientific minds, along with patients and advocacy groups, convened at the summit to uncover and debate the industry's most formidable challenges to precision health. In that same vein, tomorrow's forum will draw together stakeholders from all sides of the industry to share knowledge, lend resources and create a roadmap for the future. It is a prime example of what the precision health movement is all about, which is why I am honored to help kick off the event."

Serving as the kick off for the CoE/NoE initiative, Innovate Conference 2017 is themed "Bringing Data to Life: Consumer Directed Precision Health." The event marks a critical collaboration among key stakeholders, which span academia, government, industry, trade organizations, non-profits, and advocacy groups, with the goal of forging connections and taking the first steps toward establishing the region as a national leader in data-driven, precision healthcare.

Together, these entities will explore the role of precision health tools, such as genomics, biomarkers, electronic health records (EHRs) and wearable devices, in advancing patient care through the application of data-driven engagements and insights. Attendees will also examine ways in which the industry can improve upon the development and delivery of these tools to more immediately and effectively benefit those in need.

Hrusovsky's opening remarks will draw on his 25 years' experience in the life sciences to address the role environmental factors and inherited genetics play in triggering disease, and how our ability to monitor critical biomarkers in less invasive ways is empowering the industry to combat these disease triggers through early detection. This is making it possible to identify and treat diseases at the onset rather than waiting for last-stage symptoms to emerge. Other topics to be covered at the forum include: biohealth innovation; personalized medicine; information technology (IT); sensors; mobile; digital health; machine learning;and more.

Joining Hrusovsky will be members of leading research funding institutions, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF); several prestigious higher education research institutions, including The University of Virginia (UVA), Dartmouth College, Virginia Tech (VT), The University of Maryland (UMD), George Washington University (GW), and George Mason University; and local trade organizations, such as the Virginia Bio and Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce. To round out the proceedings, representatives from various pharmaceutical organizations, technology providers and hospitals will also be in attendance.
