Founder of Pandora Internet Radio to Speak on Campus Nov. 10

According to a recent survey, more than 60 percent of college students today own an Internet-enabled mobile device. With the punch of a thumb, they can communicate; update their status and find friends; access information and news; and find entertainment through countless applications, including an infinite selection of music through Internet Radio giant Pandora (http://www.pandora.com/).
More than 65 million people have registered to listen to Pandora on their mobile devices, computers and phones. Their personalized radio stations make up more than half of all online radio listening.
So for Tim Westergren, founder of Pandora Internet Radio, the chance to visit with representatives from one of America's fastest-growing Internet Radio consumer segments - the 18-22 year-old demographic - was an intriguing opportunity, to say the least.
At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, Westergren will host a Q&A session with Augustana students to discuss how Internet Radio has revolutionized the music industry. He'll also detail what emerging technology has in store for music consumers in the future.
The Q&A session will be held in Kresge Recital Hall on the campus of Augustana College. Westergren will also hold a Town Hall Meeting at 7 p.m. at the Museum for Visual Arts in Sioux Falls.
Westergren created Pandora in January 2000 and now serves as the Company's chief strategy officer. He received his bachelor's degree from Stanford University, where he studied music theory and composition, but spent most of his time at the Center for Research in Musical Acoustics, a campus think tank focused on the integration of computers and music.
Westergren's most recent endeavor is the Music Genome Project (MGP), an initiative designed to connect artists with listeners who are most likely to enjoy their music through a combination of technology and musicology.
