Fort Smith Homeless Shelter Opens, with the Help of $500K Grant

Thanks in part to a $500,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) and First National Bank of Fort Smith, Riverview Hope Campus has opened. Project representatives will attend the grand opening of the homeless shelter at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Hope Campus on 301 South E. Street in Fort Smith, followed by a tour of the facilities. The media is invited to attend.

The funds were awarded to the Old Fort Housing Coalition to help renovate a 127,000-square-foot building, previously used as a furniture manufacturing plant.

FHLB Dallas annually returns 10 percent of its profits in the form of AHP grants to the communities served by its member institutions, like First National Bank of Fort Smith. AHP grants fund a variety of projects, including home rehabilitation and modifications for low-income, elderly and special-needs residents; down payment and closing cost assistance for qualified first-time homebuyers; and the construction of low-income, multifamily rental communities and single-family homes. For more information about the AHP, visit fhlb.com/ahp.
