Former UW Hospital CEO to get $1.3 million severance [The Wisconsin State Journal :: ]

(Wisconsin State Journal (Madison, WI) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 29--Donna Katen-Bahensky, former president and CEO of UW Hospital, will get at least $1.3 million in severance pay, according to an exit letter released by the hospital Friday.

The hospital announced Aug. 13 that Katen-Bahensky will retire Monday amid a UW Health restructuring that will eliminate her job.

She will receive her $853,500 annual salary for another 18 months, according to an Aug. 1 letter signed by Katen-Bahensky and David Walsh, chairman of the UW Hospital board. She will also get an unspecified incentive bonus earned during the past fiscal year.

Walsh has said the planned integration of UW Hospital and UW-Madison's doctor group, the UW Medical Foundation, likely will result in one leader.

The Aug. 1 letter said Katen-Bahensky's departure "will be treated as an involuntary separation occurring as the result of a major reorganization. The Hospital has not offered you a reasonably comparable position. The fact that your separation is being referred to as a retirement publicly ... does not change the nature of your separation, which was involuntary but not for Cause." Katen-Bahensky and the hospital agreed not to make "any verbal, written, or electronic slanderous, derogatory, disparaging or negative statement against or about the other party." Ron Sliwinski, former chief operative officer of UW Hospital, was named interim president and CEO Aug. 15 as a planning group studies restructuring.
