Ford To Make Deeper Cutbacks In Production At Kentucky Truck Plant, To
Cut 300 Jobs
(InvesTrend Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
July 7, 2008 (FinancialWire) Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) has informed
workers at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville that falling consumer
demand will force the company to make deeper cutbacks in production
when the idled plant resumes operations on August 4.
Ford said that it will scale work back from three shifts to two in its
body stamping and paint department. The action will lead to the
elimination of about 300 jobs, or about 8.3 percent of the plant s
3,625 hourly workers.
Ford said earlier this week that June sales of its F-Series pick-up
trucks, including the F-Series Super Duty trucks made at Kentucky Truck
Plant, declined 40.5 percent, to 38,789 units from 65,156 units a year
ago. F-Series sales for the first half of 2008 declined 22.7 percent,
to 274,713 units from 355,438 in the first half of 2007.
Shares of Ford Motor rose six cents to close at $4.42 Thursday.
