Ford-Fraser film finally gets a name: 'Extraordinary Measures'
Nov 03, 2009 (The Columbian - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
It attracted hundreds of Vancouver residents hoping for a celeb sighting or a shot at some screen time.
And now, the "Untitled Crowley Project," with scenes filmed in Vancouver and starring Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell, has both an "extraordinary" title and a release date.
"Extraordinary Measures" is set to hit theaters nationwide Jan. 22, according to Internet movie sites.
The film's cast and crew caused a stir for several days in May and June, when they descended upon the former offices of The Columbian across from Esther Short Park and Big Al's in east Vancouver. The Columbian building was used for interior shots of a pharmaceutical company's headquarters; Big Al's served as host for a party scene.
Fraser, 40, has the lead in the drama; Ford, 67, is also executive producer.
Fraser ("The Mummy," "Gods and Monsters,") plays John Crowley, a family man who teams up with Ford, who plays Dr. Robert Stonehill. The scientist and father race against time and fight the medical establishment to develop a drug that could save two of Crowley's three children from a fatal disease.
Trailers promise a final twist at the end between Crowley and Stonehill that could affect the lives of Crowley's children.
Information is not yet available on which theaters will show "Extraordinary Measures." The film has been rated PG for thematic material, language and a mild suggestive moment.
