foodtweeks™ and Kids LiveWell Announce Partnership to Fight Childhood Obesity and Hunger

WASHINGTON, Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- foodtweeks™, a free mobile app that is on a mission to fight hunger in the United States by reallocating users' saved calories, today announces its partnership with the National Restaurant Association's Kids LiveWell program. Parents will now be able to use the foodtweeks app to select healthful menu options for their kids while dining at restaurants that participate in the Kids LiveWell program.

foodtweeks, a free app available on Android and iPhone devices, makes it possible for consumers to give back while enjoying the foods they love and cutting calories all at the same time. The app counts the calories saved through the suggested "tweeks" and contributes that amount of nutritious calories to those in need by providing donations to food bank partners nationwide.

Kids LiveWell, a program launched by the National Restaurant Association in collaboration with Healthy Dining, highlights restaurants across the country that commit to offering healthful menu items for children. To join Kids LiveWell, restaurants agree to offer and promote a selection of qualifying menu items based on specific nutrition criteria as recommended by leading health organizations. The initiative focuses on increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and low-fat dairy, and limiting unhealthy fats, sugars and sodium.

Together, foodtweeks and Kids LiveWell work to provide real-time suggestions for a more healthful family dining experience while contributing to local area food banks. Parents who use the foodtweeks app can access healthier menu options approved by a registered dietitian for their kids and themselves while dining out at Kids LiveWell participating restaurants.

"We are excited to partner with the National Restaurant Association and Kids LiveWell to help those facing hunger in America and to further benefit health-conscious families and the restaurants that have chosen to offer healthier menu optionsfor children through our program," said foodtweeks founder, Evan Walker. "Any way that we can provide families with access to accurate, nutritional guidance and improve our communities is always a step in the right direction, and we are confident that this new partnership will allow us to make a real impact for those who need it most."
