The Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research (the Institute) announced today that it has finalized a funding agreement with peerfit, a Tampa-based company that is developing a personalized wellness platform. Based on technology developed at the University of Florida, the platform provides consumers with an easy, flexible way to build their own premium fitness experience. Peerfit provides personalization of the wellness experience through a streamlined flexible platform tailored to the exploding wellness market. With technology licensed from the University of Florida, peerfit's unique platform acts as a single bucket where consumers, employers, health insurance, and family can combine dollars for each member to personalize with a digital currency for the top wellness experience. Their model is a monthly subscription membership for consumers, where they can purchase their credits to purchases classes within their own city oron-the-go at the best market member rate.

"The growth of niche fitness studios during the past decade has opened up the demand and opportunity to streamline members' wellness experience" said Ed Buckley, PhD, peerfit President. "We now offer the ultimate way to personalize every person's fitness journey with peerfit's platform and our network of the very best studios experiences. This partnership comes at an exciting time for peerfit, as we are working to personalize wellness with some of the top Florida employers, like Laser Spine Institute, Agile (News - Alert) Thought, Florida Blue, and St. Vincent's Healthcare."

"As an avid fitness-lover and group fitness instructor, Ed's idea for peerfit evolved out of the personal challenges and frustrations he experienced while leading group fitness classes," said Jamie Grooms, Institute Chief Executive Officer. Peerfit is helping consumers improve their overall health outcomes while the company's unique model and technology facilitates and enhances the relationship between fitness, health care, and consumers."
