Fish & Richardson Named to NLJ 2014 Appellate Hot List; Marks Fourth Year on Prestigious List

Fish & Richardson has been named to the National Law Journal's (NLJ) "2014 Appellate Hot List" as one of 20 firms "with outstanding achievements before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal circuit courts and state courts of last resort." This is the fourth time that Fish has been named to the Appellate Hot List.

The NLJ noted in its profile that, "twenty-five former clerks to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit give Fish & Richardson's (News - Alert) appellate lawyers a big advantage in intellectual property challenges, but the firm's victories go beyond IP." For example, Fish's win in a Texas Court of Appeals for the Dallas Mavericks basketball team and owner Mark Cuban showed that Fish's appellate strength extends into the broader reaches of commercial disputes.

The NLJ cited Fish's Federal Circuit victory for the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), which put an end to eight years of litigation, including two district court cases and two Federal Circuit fights. "Fish, in the first appeal, set up the entire arc of the subsequent litigation," said Joseph Green, CBOE's intellectual property counsel. "It was well thought-out and well played."

The NLJ also highlighted Fish's two Federal Circuit wins for LG Electronics Inc. in July 2014 in Multimedia Patent Trust v. LG Electronics and Multimedia Patent Trust v. Apple. "Fish defeated two long-running patent claims by Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) S.A. subsidiary Multimedia - sealing earlier victories against Multimedia's claims that LG and other mobile-device manufacturers had infringed Multimedia's video-compression technology patents."
