Firm leaves Greenwich for Stamford

(Stamford Advocate, The (Stamford, CT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 29--QD Healthcare Group, an education and training company for the medical and health care fields, has relocated its headquarters from Greenwich to a 9,105-square-foot office space at One Dock Street in Stamford's South End.

Antares Investment Partners owns the seven-story, 88,000-square-foot former mill building, which is 90 percent occupied. Antares is a real estate manager and developer with offices in Stamford and Greenwich,

"QD Healthcare is a progressive, innovative company, and we are delighted to add them to the tenant roster at One Dock Street," said Lori Baker, a vice president of leasing and real estate services for Antares. "The building's architecture and unique features, such as exposed brick, original wood beams and columns; proximity to the train station; and ability to accommodate their expansion needs attracted them to the building."

Founded in 1999, QD Healthcare Group, which moved this month, had been at One Sound Shore Drive in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich. Officials at the privately held company declined to comment on their new headquarters.

Michael Freimuth, economic development director for the city of Stamford, welcomed QD Healthcare Group to the city.

"It's a perfect tenant for a building like One Dock Street," Freimuth said. "It has all the conveniences of the downtown at a discounted price. Everything is knowledge-based these days and requires knowledge-based workers, for which this area has an advantage."

looked at many other buildings in lower Fairfield County, said Steve Baker, senior director at the Stamford office of New York City-based Cushman & Wakefield Inc. commercial real estate. He represented QD Healthcare in the lease negotiations. Lori Baker represented Antares.

"The building's close proximity to the Stamford transportation center and QD Healthcare's work force was a deciding factor in selecting this location," Steve Baker said.

A major transportation upgrade in the South End will help other office buildings attract tenants, said Tom Pajolek, senior vice president at the Stamford office of Los Angeles-based CB Richard Ellis commercial real estate.

"The Urban Transitway is going to open up the South End to companies like QD that need access to the train station," Pajolek said.

The four-lane Transitway, which also will have bicycle, bus and turning lanes, is expected to speed travel by connecting Elm and Atlantic streets south of the Metro-North Railroad tracks.

Antares also owns the Stamford Landing office complex on Southfield Avenue and office buildings in the South End, including 2187 Atlantic St., 333 Ludlow St., as well as office buildings on Canal Street.
