FireEye founder: McAfee copied my design [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)](ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) FireEye founder and CTO Ashar Aziz today hit out at competitor McAfee and its latest offering, which he said was copied from his own design. At the opening of the vendor's new office in Dubai today, Aziz was asked about FireEye's Advanced Threat Intelligence offering, which provides access to threat data and analytical tools to help identify attacks, relative to McAfee's similar solution, dubbed Global Threat Intelligence. In response, Aziz accused McAfee of copying his design after acquiring another company, and that FireEye's offering was still superior. "They tried to copy me, but they did a bad job," he said. "The McAfee solution is built on a company that they acquired, but it only does the detailed analysis at a file level, within its own sandbox." In contrast, Aziz said that FireEye's offering can analyse systems by running various operating systems and various different versions of software concurrently. He claimed that the solution could analyse millions of objects per hour, giving customers much deeper visibility into their networks. "[McAfee's solution] isn't doing detailed analysis - they don't say, ship, web pages over to their sandbox for analysis," he said. FireEye launched its Advanced Threat Intelligence solution in the Middle East today on the opening of its new regional headquarters in Dubai. The security vendor also announced an offering called FireEye as a Service, an on-demand managed security services offering that gives customers access to FireEye technology and talent to find and stop cyber-attacks. The vendor said that, with this solution, organisations can choose to manage their own security operations, offload security operations to FireEye, or co-manage operations with FireEye or a FireEye partner.
