FINLAND : NOKIA to cut 700 jobs at REYSONA UNIT [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Finland-based phone manufacturer, Nokia has announced its plans to lay off 700 workers at its maquiladora in Reynosa. It further added that the to be laid off workers will be getting severance packages a little bit bigger than what Mexican labor law mandates.


Wednesday, NOKIA has announced that around 4,000 jobs will be reduced from three of its plants in Reynosa; Komarom, Hungary, and Salo, Finland. It plans for moving the assembly to Asia. New task of these three plants will be to customize the phones.

The plant at the Villa Florida Industrial Park will witness no specific changes among local leadership positions and Maureen Simington will continue working as the general director there. The progressing layoffs will be completed by mid-year, said Manuel Gonzalez Arce, director of corporate communication for Nokia in North Latin America.


The coordinator of the Industrial Relations Committee of the Reynosa Association of Maquiladoras and manufacturers, Dan McGrew, said even if such cut in jobs are never good, the broader perspective for local production remains positive. He added, The industry is in better shape this year than it was (last year), and we expect that trend to continue.
