Find unique gifts through local artists
(Las Cruces Sun-News (NM) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 14--LAS CRUCES -- From locally produced CDs that are generating national awards and attention to miniature paintings by regional high school students and seasonal works by local artists and craftspersons, there are a lot of choices this year for unusual and one-of-a-kind gifts sure to be a good match for someone on your list.
Artistic gifts are a great way to support local artists and share the magic of the Land of Enchantment with family and friends in other parts of the world who many not be able to be home for the holidays or schedule a visit.
Crosses from the City of Crosses were popular offerings at last week's La Casa Bazaar. If you missed it, contact one of the vendors, Miguel Murot, who makes custom crosses in both wall art and candle holder models at (575) 805-1858.
Find more crosses and other religious art and special holiday arts and crafts, along with paintings, photography, wearable art, sculpture, furniture, and much more at the Las Cruces Farmers & Crafts Market from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays on the Las Cruces Downtown Mall.
Similar arts and crafts are available at Mesilla Mercado from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays and Thursdays on the Mesilla Plaza.

Just off the Mesilla Plaza, the Mesilla Fine Arts Gallery, an artists' cooperative, offers special miniature works of art during the holiday season at 2470 Calle de Guadalupe,

Alma d'arte High School is featuring a special sale of small paintings and multi-media works by students from Mayfield, Onate, Alma d'arte, and Las Cruces high schools for $25 each. They're on exhibit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at Court Youth Center, 402 W. Court Ave. Proceeds will help fund an All-City Seniors Art Exhibition.
Don't forget music when you're completing your gift list or looking for stocking stuffers.
Check out "La Concha de La Tortuga," a touching storytelling and music CD described as a "genesis myth of the emergence of Mother Turtle from the Earth," the result of a collaboration between award-winning writer Denise Chavez, artist and musician Corina Gabald-n, musician Kris Wroblewski, musician Nancy Green, musician/sound editor, Ricardo Valencia and photographer Daniel Zolinsky.
