Femtocells will deliver significant savings according to Informa Telecoms and Media(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Informa Telecoms & Media, a trading name of Informa UK Limited, has today (12 August) released a report in which the firm claims that it expects the number of femtocells deployed by the end of 2013 to exceed the 40 million mark, with 22 million net additions in 2013 alone. According to the report, this could allow mobile operators to make significant savings by reducing the need to create additional macro-cell capacity to cope with this traffic, but operators will need have a good understanding of market segmentation of both mobile consumer and household markets with meticulous planning and targeted marketing campaigns in order to realise the projected USD5.3bn savings the technology could achieve by 2013. femtocell networks to support 22million new net additions would cost the industry about USD3.7billion, 85% of which goes to femtocell access points (FAPs).
