Femtocells will deliver significant savings according to Informa Telecoms and Media

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Informa Telecoms & Media, a trading name of Informa UK Limited, has
today (12 August) released a report in which the firm claims that it
expects the number of femtocells deployed by the end of 2013 to exceed
the 40 million mark, with 22 million net additions in 2013 alone.

According to the report, this could allow mobile operators to make
significant savings by reducing the need to create additional
macro-cell capacity to cope with this traffic, but operators will need
have a good understanding of market segmentation of both mobile
consumer and household markets with meticulous planning and targeted
marketing campaigns in order to realise the projected USD5.3bn savings
the technology could achieve by 2013.

The report estimates the capital expenditure related to implementing
femtocell networks to support 22million new net additions would cost
the industry about USD3.7billion, 85% of which goes to femtocell access
points (FAPs).

Full details of the report are available from the company's website.
