Family Fun Day offers plenty to choose from: Mountaineer Week wraps up Sunday with hunting expo

Mountaineer Week continues today with Family Fun Day, with lots of activities noon-5 p.m. on the first floor of the Mountainlair for children and families, as well as a lengthy list of choices for later on. Take your pick today from:
Noon-12:30 p.m., illusionist and magician Josh Knotts and his partner, Lea Teyssier, both WVU graduates, perform two shows in the food court.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. King and Queen Jellybean, costume characters from the WVU Puppetry Department, will greet families as they enter the Mountainlair.
Noon-5 p.m., free popcorn and soda presented by WVU Dining Services; discounted bowling and billiards on the ground floor; Woodsy the Owl; WVU women's softball team will provide games for children; West Virginia Rehabilitation Raptor Center will be on hand; Appalachian author book table, with Amanda Griffith Penix and Gretchen Moran Laskas; Ready to Learn, info booth of West Virginia Public Broadcasting; Super Why and Princess Presto, costume characters from the children's show "Super Why!"; sand art, $6 per bottle; panning for gemstones and fossils, fee charged; airbrush tattoos, fee charged.
12:30-1:30 p.m., String of Pearls senior tap dancers in the food court.
1 p.m., Second Annual Black Powder Shootout, a double elimination eight ball tournament, with cash prizes awarded.
1-2 p.m., author Amanda Griffith Penix will present a pictorial history of Athurdale.
1:30-2 p.m., West Virginia 4-H Dance Ambassadors Exhibition, at the food court; Coal Country and Bringing Down the Mountains, question and answer discussion by WVU grad Shirley Stewart Burns of her books and film.
1-3 p.m., Vandalia Dancers in the food court.
1-4 p.m., Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Arthurdale, Preston County's New Deal community, with an exhibit and online database, exhibit by Valley Elementary School contest winners at Hatfield's.
2-2:30 p.m., mini-Mountaineer trivia, Vandalia Lounge; Arthurdale Reader's Theater, Hatfield's. 2-4:30 p.m., old-time hammered dulcimer, food court. 2:30-3:30 p.m., author Gretchen Moran Laskas will discuss her book, "The Miner's Daughter," and storytellers, at Hatfield's. 3 p.m., clogging competition, Gluck Theater. 3:30-4 p.m., reader's theater, Hatfield's.
4-4:30 p.m., illusionist and magician, food court, two shows; book signing by Burns, Penix and Laskas, Hatfield's.
4-5 p.m., WVU Student Voices, undergraduate writing on display, Bluestone Room.
5:30-7 p.m., Tellebration! tall tales from West Virginia story tellers, Hatfield's.
7:30 p.m., fiddle contest, Gluck Theatre; "Old Crow Medicine Show," WVU Creative Arts Center, $30 general admission, $20 with WVU ID.
9-10 p.m., yesteryears photos, Vandalia Lounge.
9:30 p.m., "The New Relics," food court.
Other events today: 11 a.m.-8 p.m., craft fair, quilt show; 1-2 p.m., planetarium shows at WVU's Tomchin Planetarium and Observatory in the fourth floor of Hodges Hall.
