Facebook launches anonymous chat app

(EFE Ingles Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) San Francisco, Oct 24 (EFE).- Facebook, the world's biggest social media network, has launched a new app for mobile telephones that allows users to share interests with others anonymously.

The new app, dubbed "Rooms", was unveiled Thursday and is an adpated version of Internet "chat rooms" and operates independently of Facebook so users do not need an account with the social media giant.

According to the company, users can create a "room" on a single topic using a pseudonym and share photos, videos and text with others who have the same interests.

In announcing the new app, Facebook suggested some "Rooms" subjects such as ramen noodles, child raising, the traditional Japanese game of kendama and the vocal musical practice of beatboxing.

"Now you can connect with people anywhere around the world who like something as much as you do," "Rooms" product manager Josh Miller said.

Since its beginnings, Facebook has always required users to truthfully identify themselves so no one could hide behind a false name, making the network fully transparent.EFE arc/cg/am/bj/amg (c) 2014 EFE News Services (U.S.) Inc.
