Extension Healthcare and Owensboro Health to Present Case Study at Clinical Alarm Safety Symposium

FORT WAYNE, Ind. --(Business Wire)--

Together, Extension Healthcare's Sr. Product Manager, Allen Enebo, and Ryan Aud, senior Application Analyst of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital will present at the upcoming Clinical Alarm Safety Symposium. The duo will present "Leveraging Your Medical Device Alarm Data to Improve Alarm Safety." Mr. Aud will present a case study on the hospital's deployment of the Extension Engage™ alarm management and event response platform and discuss how they used the Extension Evaluate™ service to collect baseline alarm and alert data.

Aud is founder of the Owensboro Health Clinical Communication Advisory Team and focuses primarily on components of the hospital's communication system and the corresponding workflows that directly impact patient care. He will describe specific strategies implemented at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital designed to reduce alarm fatigue and other nursing interruptions. Details will include how Owensboro reduced alarm floods aided by the Evaluate service and Engage platform.

Enebo, who was with Spacelabs Healthcare before joining Extension earlier this year, has over 20 years of experience in healthcare IT, focusing on medical device connectivity, alarm management and safety, and healthcare information management. He is currently a member of both AAMI Foundation and the HTSI Alarms Safety committees. As a presenter at The Clinical Alarm Safety Symposium, he will discussa new paradigm in care team collaboration that integrates enterprise alarms into the broader spectrum of clinical communications.

Enebo said, "Using Extension Evaluate Owensboro was able to prove and disprove assumptions about which medical devices and clinical systems were generating the greatest number of alarms and alerts. The results allowed Owensboro to look beyond medical devices and consider all noises and other nursing interruptions as well. They have revised policies and procedures that greatly improve the nursing, patient, and family experiences." He added, "We are excited about what we've been able to help Owensboro accomplish and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with their organization."

Extension Engage in the only alarm middleware on the market today that combines alarms, alerts, and patient-centric text messaging into a single platform that manages these various communications simultaneously to reduce overall nursing interruptions and alarm fatigue.

The Clinical Alarm Safety Symposium convenes from November 20-21 and is expected to draw hospital executives, clinicians, and industry stakeholders with an interest in exploring alarm safety challenges, best practices, and technological solutions. Extension and Owensboro will present at 9:30 am EST on Friday, November 21, in Track A.
