Experts to Weigh In on IIoT Disruption on June 22 at Object Management Group Meeting in Orlando, Florida


Authorities from the Consortium for IT Software Quality™ (CISQ™), EMC, Microsoft, Lockheed Martin, PTC, Real-Time Innovations as well as the Object Management Group® (OMG®) and the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC) will gather on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM ET at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, Florida to discuss IIoT Challenges and Opportunities. Registration for this complimentary event is open to the public.



"The Internet of Things (IIoT) brings enormous benefits in efficiency and economy, but these benefits are not without risks to privacy and security. Networks originally designed to be isolated are now exposed to continuous attacks of ever increasing sophistication," said Dr. Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of OMG and executive director of the Industrial Internet Consortium. "The IIC will soon publish a security framework and a rigorous methodology to assess cybersecurity in Industrial Internet of Things systems and the OMG is continually working to help businesses mitigate these risks through security, privacy and system assurance standards."

OMG, an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium and the IIC, an open membership organization formed to accelerate the growth of the Industrial Internet, are co-hosting this event during the upcoming OMG quarterly Technical Meeting from June 20-24, 2016. Hotel rooms for the member meeting are currently available for half-price until Friday, May 27th.


Agenda Highlights

Dr. Soley will begin the afternoon addressing how major disruptions in transportation, financial management, medical devices and other markets are already happening as "Internet thinking" continues its reach into the industrial domain.

Andrew Watson, OMG's vice president and technical director, will take a closer look at how OMG standards are shaping IIoT deployment worldwide, from controlling hydro-electric power generation to integrating logistics fleet management systems.

Dr. Arjmand Samuel, principal program manager in the Microsoft (News - Alert)® Azure™ Internet of Things team, will speak about the challenges of designing, developing and deploying mission-critical IoT infrastructure, and will introduce security design principles and features built into Microsoft Azure and Azure IoT Suite, resulting in a trustworthy Internet of Things.

Dr. Ben Calloni, Lockheed Martin (News - Alert) Fellow, Lockheed Martin and co-chair of the OMG System Assurance Task Force, will explain how OMG standards can provide a level of confidence necessary to trust an IoT system.

Dr. Said Tabet, senior technologist and industry standards strategist at EMC (News - Alert), will focus on approaches used in IIC testbeds that support innovation, new business models and enable collaborative IIoT ecosystems.

Dr. Bill Curtis, director of CISQ, will delve into software security issues that developers face as they integrate multi-vendor IIoT systems into environments characterized by changing supply chains.

Matthew Hause, GTM Technical Specialist, Engineering Fellow, PTC, OMG UPDM™ co-chair and Dr. Gerardo Pardo-Castellote, CTO, Real-Time Innovations, OMG Data-Distribution Service™ PSIG co-chair, will join other speakers in a panel discussion about the role that security standards play in the IIoT.

Following the panel, all of the speakers will be available at a networking reception which is open to attendees.
