European Union Takes Center Stage at South by Southwest Interactive FestivalWASHINGTON, March 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The European Union Delegation to the United States will for the first time be present at South by Southwest (SXSW) with its "EU@SXSW" venue - the go-to place for a European perspective on cutting-edge technologies, creative thinking and innovation. Visitors can also relax and mingle over European coffee and pastries on the EU@SXSW networking lawn. The EU's Ambassador to the U.S., David O'Sullivan, will speak about 'EU's Digital Single Market: Breaking Down Barriers' during a panel discussion on March 11 at 12:30 pm, and later that evening will host the official EU@SXSW kick-off reception. "South y Southwest represents a unique opportunity for the EU Delegation to collaborate and engage with American stakeholders while showcasing the European Union's leadership in supporting digital and cultural economies," said Ambassador O'Sullivan. Background Information South by Southwest (SXSW) is the leading conference and festival in the United States devoted to the convergence of the music, film, and digital industries. Given the sustained attendance of digital industry and policy officials, the EU Delegation identified SXSW as an ideal venue to constructively and positively engage stakeholders on issues of importance to the EU, such as the Digital Single Market initiative, and foster closer transatlantic collaboration. Although this is the EU's first official presence, Europe itself is not new to SXSW. In 2016, SXSW saw nearly 5,000 registrants from across Europe, and 11 EU Member States took booth space on the interactive trade show floor.
