EU promises to assist Kazakhstan in WTO accession

April 5 (Interfax) - The European Union will promote a speedy accession of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization (WTO), director of the European Commission Directorate for Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asian Republics Hugues Mingarelli has said.



Astana hosted the seventh session of the Kazakhstan-EU cooperation committee on Wednesday.

Mingarelli told a briefing in Astana that the EU viewed Kazakhstan as an important partner and was determined to strengthen cooperation.


Mingarelli spoke of the need for consolidated efforts to
protect
freedom of speech in Kazakhstan and offer all political
forces thechance to work openly.

Mingarelli said the EU also believed that the
authorities in
Kazakhstan should take a number of steps to improve the
investmentclimate, improve the protection of intellectual property, as well as the customs and tax administration. ml md
