Eston Kohver's arrest was extended till January

(LETA Latvian News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TALLINN, October 31 (LETA) Russian authorities did not allow the Estonian embassy consul to attend the court session on Friday that decided to extend the detention of Estonian Security Police (KaPo) official Eston Kohver by two months, Postimees Online reports.

"The Embassy submitted an application to the court that consul could attend the hearing, but it was not satisfied," foreign ministry spokeswoman Mariann Sudakov told Postimees.

Consul Signe Matteus has been able to meet with Kohver in the Moscow Lefortovo prison four times. Russian representatives have attended all of the meetings. The consul has been able to talk to Kohver in Estonian, but all of what was said has been translated into Russian for the prison officer.

Moscow court on Friday extended detention of Estonian KaPo official Eston Kohver till 5 January, citing the need to carry out procedural acts.

KaPo official Eston Kohver was abducted on September 5 at Luhamaa, near the Estonian-Russian border, and was forcibly taken to Russia where he is held in the Lefortovo prison, being accused of espionage. If convicted, he can face 10-20 years in prison.
