ERSA Approves Use of Digital Video Transmission for Sanctioned FPV Racing and Freestyle Events in Europe

GENEVA, July 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

ProSight HD all-digital system now allowed for top tier drone racing events, offering enhanced vision performance and image quality

The European Rotor Sports Association (ERSA), the body presiding over all sanctioned drone racing events in Europe, today announced that it has approved the use of digital video transmission technology at events it oversees. The approval clears the way for the new CONNEX ProSight HD vision system to be used by racers to take advantage of the enhanced vision performance and image quality it offers.

The approval comes after testing by ERSA to ensure quality of digital systems as well as their ability to co-exist with analog systems in drone racing and freestyle events.

"As with any sport, FPV racing must evolve with technology and all-digital, latency free transmission is a major step forward for the sport. We have tested digital video transmission ourselves and consulted with experts around Europe and are confident in authorizing its use at ERSA events," said Nigel Tomlinson, president of ERSA.

Tomlinson added that the decision on whether digital VTX will be allowed at specific events will be the choice of the individual organiser.

The ProSight technology has already won rave reviews from pilots and experts in the fast-growing first-person view (FPV) drone racing market. The product - consisting of a combination of a rea-time HD camera, transmitter and receiver - marks a new era in the performance, image quality and usability available for both drone pilots and spectators of the emerging sport.

The ProSight solution addresses head on issues that have plagued first generation analog FPV products, including unclear images, and jammed frequencies caused by multiple simultaneous users. As a result, the ProSight digital system dramatically improves the flying experience.

"This is a tremendous milestone for FPV racing and will enable huge new opportunities for the sport. ProSight all-digital HD transmission opens the door for increased interest and excitement from the media that will drive growth of the fan base for multirotor sports," said Uri Kanonich, VP Marketing at Amimon, the developer of the ProSight system.
