EMU Integrated Marketing Program Increases Course Offerings, Offers More Flexible Scheduling


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) YPSILANTI, Mich., Oct. 20 -- Eastern Michigan University issued the following news release: The Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) program at the Eastern Michigan University College of Business is offering a variety of new courses along with increased flexibility in scheduling of classes.



The graduate program in IMC, which is geared toward the business professional, offers the advantage of the versatility of a completely online program while earning a master's degree from a business school recognized among the nation's top 300 schools.

The new structure, which will be in place effective with the coming Winter 2015 semester, will involve six required courses and six electives to choose, rather than the previously required 12 courses.


The revised curriculum also adds new electives, covering the respective topics of privacy policy management, social media strategy, customer relationship marketing and business marketing.

The revised curriculum is as follows: Required core courses: IMC 601 - Principles, Strategies and Tactics IMC 602 - Brand Development IMC 603 - Audience Behavior IMC 604 - Marketing Communications Research IMC 615 - IMC Ethics, Regulations and Society IMC 631 - IMC Campaigns Elective courses (choose 6): IMC 605 - Creative Message Strategy IMC 606 - Multichannel Media I IMC 607 - Multichannel Media II IMC 608 - Direct Marketing IMC 609 - Public Relations IMC 612 - IMC Sales Promotion IMC 614 - IMC Privacy Policy Management (new) IMC 616 - Search Engine Marketing IMC 617 - Social Media Marketing Strategy (new) IMC 618 - IMC Customer Relationship Marketing (new) IMC 620 - Business Marketing (new) "We are excited over the changes in the IMC curriculum," said Shiri Vivek, head of the marketing department in the EMU College of Business. "Students now have more flexibility in planning their academic program, and can choose among a variety of excellent offerings in targeting their skill development. In addition, we've added some crucial new training, in areas such as social media marketing." Recently, EMU students in the IMC 608 Direct Marketing class won silver and bronze awards in the Collegiate ECHO Challenge, an international competition sponsored by Marketing Edge, the educational arm of the Direct Marketing Association. EMU students have won a total of three gold, six silver, and two bronze Awards in this annual competition since 2008.

This year's challenge was to create an integrated marketing campaign using all direct and interactive communication channels, including Domino's-owned and earned media channels; social media, e-mail, website and print, with a goal of increasing the number of orders driven through Domino's Mobile App.

Carey Chesney, director of marketing for the Office of University Development at the University of Michigan, recently graduated from Eastern's IMC program. He was also a member of the team earning the bronze award at the ECHO Challenge.

"Our industry is evolving so fast, with new forms of media and best practices about how to harness that media changing weekly, if not daily," Chesney said. "The IMC program at EMU enabled me to stay on the forefront of these trends and earn a masters degree from a respected business school, all in a way that worked with my busy schedule." The IMC program at EMU has been designed to use real-world examples and techniques as students collaborate with other professionals to gain the skills they need to advance in their careers. The program brings together branding, messaging and media for the most progressive and innovative marketing strategies in business today.

IMC graduates find career opportunities across the globe in a variety of industries as consultants, executives, directors, managers and even entrepreneurs.
