His presentation titled "EHR and Its Role in Alleviating Poverty" emphasized how digital innovations have revolutionized the health industry over the recent years. Dr. Sheikh gave an elaborate account on the adaptation of mobile phones and wireless connectivity to the EHR in management of chronic disease such as Diabetes Mellitus. He further elaborated on how the use of ICT in healthcare has extended the reach of healthcare providers and decision makers beyond the boundaries of the hospitals and clinics to the patients directly in distant and rural areas. He also spoke about the significance of EHR and integrated healthcare system within the horizontal healthcare program, as well as their roles in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in future.



This year's XIV Infopoverty World Conference was held on April 10-11 2014 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York under the Patronage of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Italy. It was co-organized by OCCAM, the European Parliament, the UNDESA, and the Infopoverty Institute at the University of Oklahoma. It held a videoconference with Milan and European Parliament Office, and was webcasted around the globe. The conference focused on the theme "How the digital innovations can accelerate the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and help launch the Sustainable Development Goals". Government officials, international dignitaries, intellectuals, and world's business leaders attended the event.
