EIT Digital Accelerator Welcomes Freshest Member - Italian Scaleup ISCLEANAIR

BRUSSELS, April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

A new key player joins the EIT Digital universe. ISCLEANAIR, a highly innovative Italian scaleup created in 2016 as a spin-off of the Is Tech group, has signed up to the EIT Digital Accelerator .

The partnership springs from a common focus on the air quality of living environments and the supply of high added-value services to companies, citizens and public administrations.

ISCLEANAIR, based in Rovereto (Trento) and Rome, was launched after seven years of research and development of a patented technology that works at ground level to abate most pollutants present or released in manufacturing, commercial or urban environments.

Its APA (Air Pollution Abatement) devices are characterised by their effectiveness - they are able to abate up to 99.7% of indoor pollutants and 90% of those present outdoors - and by their limited maintenance, installation and management costs.

They come in several shapes including totems or panels to be placed in hospitals, schools, railway stations or rest stops and parking areas. Thanks to built-in connectivity they can also display useful information or adertisements, act as hotspots for Internet access, monitor environmental conditions or be used for video surveillance.

The APA has already been through several tests in different urban contexts. One of the most interesting applications was the purification of the air in two areas of Rome's Ciampino Airport - the luggage sorting lines and the departure area after security checks.

In that instance, the company says the percentage of particulate matters abated reached 50% after just ten days of functioning in the luggage sorting lines, while in the gate area, it surpassed 60% after 40 days.

To distribute the APA technology in cities and industrial plants, ISCLEANAIR signed an agreement with the TIM/Olivetti group. In addition to joining the EIT Digital Accelerator, the company will also become part of EIT Digital's Digital Cities Action Line, created to introduce market innovative solutions that could improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

"We are very happy to welcome ISCLEANAIR into our ecosystem," EIT Digital's Italy node director Roberto Saracco says. "Their smart and flexible usage of IoT makes it possible to reduce particulate pollution and lower management costs while at the same time providing air quality estimates that will allow targeted and effective interventions. With our European network and our Silicon Valley hub, we'll be able to help ISCLEANAIR in its commercialisation efforts."

"Entering EIT Digital's Accelerator represents an extraordinary growth opportunity for us, in both national and international markets," ISCLEANAIR's CEO Giuseppe Spanto says. "Our initiative, with its revolutionary impact from the environmental, social and digital point of view makes it a perfect fit for the programme. We believe that the joint work of market experts and business developers, not least in terms of cross-innovation, will bring great rewards."
