'Economic slowdown cuts churn - T-Mobile UK chief'
(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
The economic slowdown is making customers more loyal, according to
T-Mobile UK chief Jim Hyde. "I've been through economic downturns in
this business and one things remains consistent: when retail in general
drops off, traffic into our stores drops off. With less of that impulse
shopping, churn goes down," he told the Daily Mail in an interview.
More and more customers are also foregoing the latest handset and
negotiating themselves cheaper Sim-only deals, according to Hyde. The
result is fewer handset subsidies and lower customer acquisition costs
for the operator. Hyde also called the G1 the company's most successful
handset launch. "It's not the next iPhone, but is the closest thing to
a computer in your pocket that we've yet seen," he said.
