Eaton's Security Business: Investigating In Prevention With Menvier

(Cision Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Eaton’s Security business, a business unit of diversified power management company Eaton, is now firmly positioned as a leading manufacturer of security equipment for all types of commercial and residential premises.

This has been achieved through a combination of state-of-the-art product design and development alongside a level of field and technical support that has consistently set the benchmark across the entire security sector.

The Menvier range has a strong heritage producing high performance intruder prevention systems including multi-zone hardwired, wireless and hybrid intruder systems, digital and voice communicators and access control. For many years it has been the ‘go to’ product range for large installations with complex building services integration requirements. Its advanced zone control and extended output options enable detailed customisation of systems to meet exacting requirements, allowing for a truly unique and sophisticated specification.

Menvier panels have a built in port providing a web browser interface and local networking capability. End stations have been designed to house a minimum of one 12v 17Ah battery and give a full range of customisable and programmable output options.

All panels offer an enhanced range of zone options including a shunt key and shuntable zones. The panels also support the configuration of zone resistance and supervision settings by individual zones to enable faster system takeover.

The panels support both wired and radio expansion. The radio system used is the secure 868MHz narrowband radio solution shared with other products in the portfolio.Operating to ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental standards, Eaton’s Security business is committed to excellence in every aspect of its operation. This is exemplified in its thorough exhaustive in-house testing procedures, which ensure that any product carries out the function it was designed for, in accordance with parameters stated in UK and European standards for alarm systems, including EN50131, PD6662:2010 and BS8243:2010.

The company is also unique in its commitment to having its products independently tested, verified and approved by some of Europe’s most stringent third-party testing laboratories. This ensures that the product’s claims are substantiated-offering customer’s unrivalled peace of mind. Other credentials include approval by the British Standards Institute (BSI) as a manufacturer of security equipment and membership of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).

Eaton believes in engaging with its customers in order to fully understand their specific needs.  Once these are outlined, they are realised by an industrial design technique that is similar to those used in consumer electronics. This process results in aesthetically pleasing products that deliver the functionality that users really want-and that’s what good engineering is all about. What’s more, prototypes are tested with installers, architects and end users in real life situations, and comments are fed back to assist with refining the designs. All products and systems are supported by the best possible customer service. Specifiers are offered a unique and comprehensive support package to ensure they get the right solution every time from the design process, free no obligation quotations and specifications, site visits, design schemes and product familiarisation training. Post –sales support is taken very seriously, an experienced technical services team provide both telephone and field based support. The team comprises individuals from wide and varied backgrounds, all of who process vast experience of high profile intruder, access control and IT installations.Prevention is a sound investment; Eaton has an extensive solution portfolio based on individual circumstances, with examples including Requirement 1: The end user needed to monitor its outbuildings from a central control room on site.

Protective measure 1:  Eaton specified a Menvier 300 control panel with the capability of connecting to the onsite network. This enables the outbuilding doors to be opened remotely by using the web browser, reducing the need for keys. The control room could also set and unset the alarm system using the virtual keypad. The Menvier 300 also monitors boiler, UPS and telemetry faults and Eaton’s DET-RWATER Flood sensors protect the outbuildings and sub stations from flood damage. Alerts are sent via GSM to the control room and maintenance team as both a voice and text message, as well as sending a technical alert through to an alarm receiving centre.

Requirement 2: A specialised and specific duty of care was required for their research and development staff, who often worked late at night and with hazardous materials.

Protective measure 2: Eaton specified a 706r radio lone worker/ Panic attack button with links to a Menvier 300 control panel. The device can be activated by pressing two buttons on the 706r or by the tilt switch inside the 706r if a man is down, both of which notify the central monitoring system.

Requirement 3: The end user wanted to restrict staff and visitors from going into areas that were deemed as hazardous or held company confidential information.

Protective measure 3: Eaton specified the AX300 PC based access control system that protected 500 doors throughout the site. This reduced the risk of staff going into areas that they should not have access to, and restricted visitor access to secure or sensitive areas. The AX300 also enabled the client to obtain reports from the access control system for audit trails.

Requirement 4: Damage to a fibre optic cable which controls the main car park barrier meant the barrier could not be released from the main building. A quote for replacing and installing the cable from civil engineering works was received but very expensive.

Protective measure 4:  To send a signal from the control room to the barrier, Eaton recommended a 762r radio receiver and a 703r radio transmitter with a distance of approximately 800 metres. The radio signal is monitored by the Menvier 300 control panel which checks for jamming signals, supervision signals and voltage problems to the transmitter and receiver. By fitting this radio link the end user benefitted from drastically reduced costs, in comparison to the quote received for the civil engineering works. The Control Panel will also receive alerts if the radio signal is interrupted, removing the potential security issue of jamming the signal to allow or prevent access via the barrier.
