'Dutch telecom prices go up in Feb - CBS'
Mar 08, 2010 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) --
The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said telecommunications
became more expensive in February, according to preliminary figures,
breaking a three year trend of falling prices for consumers. Inflation
in general went up 0.8 percent in February from the year before.
Spending on communication accounts for 3.7 percent of the Dutch
consumer price index (CPI) figure. (Housing is the biggest expense on
the index, followed by transportation, food and recreation. Together,
the four categories account for two thirds of Dutch spending.) In 2007,
2008 and 2009, telecom prices fell 2.8 percent, 4.1 percent and 1.9
percent respectively. From September 2009 to January 2010, price levels
fell (minus 2.5 percent in January compared to the year before) but in
February, price levels rose by 1.2 percent. As a result, communication
prices in February lifted 3.9 percent from the previous month.
