The Dominion Post, Morgantown, W.Va., Nicole Bowman column: Dine and dash with Flo

(The Dominion Post in Morgantown (WV)(KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jun. 15--"DINER DASH 2"

by PlayFirst for PC and mobile. Rated E for Everyone.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

Windows 98SE/ ME/2000/XP; Processor: 700 MHz or faster; Memory: 128 MB or more; DirectX 7.0 or later.

SOMETIMES YOU just want a quick video game -- something short and sweet, yet satisfying. During a recent shopping trip, I couldn't decide between a Nancy Drew game or the casual games selection . My foodie instincts took over and I went with "Diner Dash 2." The game has a story mode and an endless shift mode. In story mode, you guide the waitress Flo as she travels from restaurant to restaurant. In each level, you help the restaurant collect money for rent. To collect the money, Flo has to pick up orders from customers, clean up spills, get high-chairs, etc. How well you do depends on how well you streamline Flo's activities. A few clicks of the mouse may lead Flo to some wayward errands and you'll loose that level. During the endless shift, you play until you have too many customers pull the dine-and-dash -- leave without paying. You can upgrade your restaurant when you reach certain requirements. While story mode selects what you upgrade, the endless shift mode lets you pick from various ways to keep guests happy. If you want a game where you don't have to think that much, "Diner Dash 2" is a perfect choice. It also involves food, which is a great plus for all those gameplaying foodies out there.

The game also comes with trial versions of "Diner Dash -- Flo on the Go," "Pirate Poppers," "Spellagories" and "Egg vs. Chicken."

In "Flo on the Go," Flo works on a cruise ship. The game is like any other "Diner Dash," except you can change her outfit as the game progresses. In "Pirate Poppers, " players have to link a series of three or more same-colored cannonballs by firing a ball into a line of cannonballs. "Spellagories" is a word jumble game, where players have to unscramble letters to get a particular word. The word is part of a string that will remove an evil wizard's curse from a villager.

"Egg vs. Chicken" is my least favorite out of all the games. In it, you have to group same-colored eggs and fire them at chickens who are trying to invade your rebel egg fort. The game's controls aren't as easy to master as the other games are. NICOLE BOWMAN is a Lifestyles writer/copy editor. E-mail nbowman@dominionpost.com.
