The Dominion Post, Morgantown, W.Va., Justin Jackson column: Want to gobble up the Wing-T? Head to Google

(The Dominion Post Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) IN A DAY AND age where athletics can bring in some big bucks and athletic directors can spend it nearly as fast, here's a tip that can prove to be useful: Google.com. It's an absolutely lovely thing, this creation they call the Internet. With the Mohawk Bowl coming up Friday, University High athletic director Jeff Bailey can't afford not to take a look at the search engine. Google.com can guarantee the Hawks a victory by shutting down Morgantown High's Wing-T offense for the low, low price of $59.95, and that includes shipping and handling. Not a believer? Then check it out yourself. Get on Google and type in "stopping the Wing T." The second entry you'll see is "DefWingTPass.html," which goes right into how to shut down the Wing-T passing game. The website even begins with a diagram and then goes on for eight paragraphs with such tips as: "A Wing-T team generally does not pass as often as most other offensive schemes. The secondary, therefore, has a tendency to get lulled into complacency. This is where discipline must come into play." You can buy the video for $15 and add $5 for shipping. Of course, the Mohigans plan to run the ball, but Google has that covered, too. Scroll down a few more Web sites and you'll find "Stopping the Wing-T with the 4-4 Defense." Here, you can order a DVD for $39.95 created by James Madison coach Mickey Matthews, who guided James Madison to the 2004 Division I-AA national championship and was the I-AA Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2004. The DVD is only 48 minutes long, so there are no time constraints. But wait, there's more. JUSTIN JACKSON covers high school sports for The Dominion Post. Reach him at jjackson@dominionpost.com
